Our process
While building a house isn’t a simple task, we make the process of manufacturing HUCX panels as straightforward as possible for our clients.
When you choose HUCX to manufacture and deliver your structurally insulated panels (SIPs), we typically follow these steps to complete your project:
1. Drawings (allow 2-6 weeks depending on your project)
First, we need drawings of your building so we know what SIP shapes and sizes we need to create. If you have architectural plans, that’s great - please email them to us. If you need an architect or draftsperson to draw your plans, we can connect you to one of our trusted partners.
2. Quote (allow up to 1 week)
Once we have your detailed plans (technical drawings), we put together an official quote for your project. This HUCX quote is normally combined with a quote from your builder. In most cases, the pre-fabrication costs are roughly 50% of the entire build amount.
3. Engineering (around 2 weeks)
After you approve the quote, we require an upfront non-refundable payment of $7k to engage our engineer to complete the initial structural engineering for HUCX to undertake your building project. We will supply the engineering certificate and prepare the relevant documents for obtaining permits.
4. Permits (anywhere from 1-12 months depending on your project)
Depending on your building’s size and location, you’ll need to comply with local council requirements for planning and building permits. All inhabitable buildings require a building permit which you get from an independent contractor. We’ll supply the engineering documents and help you through this process to make sure you have everything you need.
5. HUCX Panel production (6-8 weeks, depending on your project)
Currently, we manufacture 30m2 of pre-fabricated HUCX panels per week. So, a house of 240m2 takes around 8 weeks to produce in the factory. To start manufacturing your panels, we require 40% of the total project cost to be paid. Note this 40% payment includes the $7k engineering fee.
6. Groundworks (1-2 weeks, depending on the project)
While your HUCX panels are in production, your builder can prepare your house site. Our preferred foundation option is the concrete-free steel Surefoot™ footing system, however, we can work with concrete slabs if absolutely necessary.
7. HUCX panel ‘flight check’ (ADD Timeframe for checking panels)
Before your panels leave our factory, we do our final checks to make sure all pieces have been completed correctly and are in the right order for delivery and assembly. To release your panels, we require payment of the next 30% instalment of the total project cost.
8. Delivery and assembly (ADD Timeframe for delivery)
Your HUCX panels are delivered by crane-truck to your site, ready to be installed by your builder. This takes one day per Xm2, so a standard Xm2 house should be assembled in 3-4 days, ready for its external covering material to be put on by your builders. We require payment of the final 30% instalment of the total project cost to deliver and unload your panels.
9. Builder to finish (ADD Timeframe for builder to finish)
With HUCX panels installed on your site, your builder continues your project like any other traditional build. The roof and external covering must go on immediately, as HUCX panels are not designed for prolonged periods of exposure to wet weather. Electrical and plumbing trades will need to connect and certify the work before the interior lining can be installed.
